Tekla Middle East will showcase its Building Information Modelling (PLM/BIM) solution at this year's Arab Oil and Gas Exhibition, taking place in Dubai from 18 - 20 September. Oil and gas industry experts agree that BIM can vastly reduce operational cost, and manage waste over the life cycle of a project.

Plant design systems for the oil and gas industry still rely generation of 2D drawings. Using Tekla, the entire design process, including plant equipment, pipe spooling, electric systems and the main structure can be incorporated in a 3D rendered environment.

Furthermore, Tekla enables continued utilizing of the 3D intelligent model for the whole project lifecycle from engineering, fabrication, and onsite construction to final commissioning.

Industry decision makers, owners, contractors, engineering companies, fabricators and project managers can witness first-hand the benefit of using Tekla Structures from design to concept of construction.

The Tekla stand will be running live demonstrations of the company's entire product range, while senior managers will be available to discuss specific customer issues in a one-to-one environment.

Saipem is one of several global companies employing Tekla BIM for its offshore projects.

"Clearly, the most significant benefit is the availability of a single structural model from which we can extract project plans and detailing, lists of materials, weights and centres of gravity. The software also allows direct interfacing to the piping model in PDS," noted Saipem engineer Giuseppe Frigerio.

"The program was customised to handle our needs related to material management, construction phase management and integration with corporate standards (standard joint macros and customized user attributes and material lists). Another useful function provided by Tekla Structures is simultaneous access by multiple users to the same model."

Representatives from Tekla will be available throughout Arab Oil and Gas Exhibition to provide a detailed overview. Tekla will be exhibiting at Stand No. B104 in hall 7 at the Dubai International Conventional and Exhibition Centre.
